Gelato Strain – The dessert among cannabis strains
If a strain manages to define an entire era of cannabis breeding, it is the Gelato Strain. Creamy, potent, and beautiful – Gelato Seeds deliver one of the most iconic genetics of our time. Whether you're looking for Gelato 33, Gelato 41 or one of the many Gelato crosses: At House of Seeds, you'll find the premium selection from the best seedbanks in Europe.
The story of Gelato: From the Bay Area to the whole world
The Gelato Strain story begins in the mid-2010s in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was bred by the legendary Cookie Fam Geneticscollective – the minds behind the entire Cookies dynasty. Berner and Jigga (Mr. Sherbinski) crossed two absolute heavyweights and created a milestone.
Thanks to shoutouts in hip-hop culture, demand exploded almost overnight. Gelato became the strain of the decade – and today it is the foundation for countless modern hybrids like Runtz, Biscotti, Gelato Cake and many more.
Genetics: Sunset Sherbet meets Thin Mint Cookies
The Gelato Strain is a cross between Sunset Sherbet and and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies – two absolute legends from the Cookies universe. The result is a slightly Indica-dominant hybrid with a ratio of about 55% Indica to 45% Sativa.
Numerous phenotypes emerged from the original breeding. The most famous are Gelato #33 (Larry Bird) as a balanced all-rounder, Gelato #41 (Bacio Gelato) as the most potent variant, and Gelato #25 (Baklava) with a strong physical effect.
Effect: Euphoria meets velvety relaxation
With the Gelato Strain you can expect a perfectly balanced hybrid effect. It starts with a euphoric, heady wavethat lifts your mood and sparks creativity. At the same time, a gentle physical relaxation spreads – without completely couch-locking you.
With THC levels between 20% and 25% (some phenos even break the 28% mark), Gelato is definitely not a beginner strain. Gelato 41 is considered the most potent variant, while Gelato 33 feels a bit more accessible and energetic.
Aroma & Flavor: Creamy ice cream in the grinder
The name says it all. Gelato Seeds plants produce a terpene profile like no other: creamy and sweet like Italian gelato, with fruity citrus and berry notes, floral lavender, and a subtle earthy finish.
Responsible for this aroma spectrum are mainly Caryophyllene, Limonene and Humulene. With Gelato 33 the profile is fruitier, with Gelato 41 creamier and nuttier – both absolutely stunning.
Cultivation: Medium difficulty with spectacular results
Growing Gelato Seeds requires some experience but rewards you with exceptional results. The flowering time is 8–9 weeks. Gelato grows compact and bushy with medium to high yields. The highlight: spectacular purple and orange hues in cooler night temperatures and an extremely dense, frosty trichome layer.
Gelato plants prefer a stable, warm climate and respond well to techniques like LST and SOG.
